    Feeder motor question

Finally set my feeder up today. Put new battery in it and everything came on so filled it up without testing the motor. Now when I hit test the motor will move a quarter of a turn and then stop. I can spin it by hand but it doesn't spin freely.

Any tips on what I can do. Was thinking about some WD-40 but not sure what else I can try.

Sounds like a dead battery to me, if it will spin with no load, but does not spin once corn is in the spinner plate.

It doesn't spin freely by hand. Seems like it has some resistance.

If you filled it, make sure something isn't lodged in the funnel jamming it up. Even in a bag of corn there is stuff that can jam it.

In a pinch I have used a soda straw from the floor of my truck to drip a few drops of automatic transmission fluid on the shaft of the motor and freed it up, still working a couple of years later.

I'm gonna try wd-40 tomorrow and see if that helps. If not then gonna have to try to change the motor. Hope that's easy with a feeder full of corn.

Super easy to do, just plug the funnel/hole before you drop the feeder box. I've used a work glove, sock, duct tape, a buddies hand, you name it. Just lodge it in there snug so you don't lose any corn first.

I'd think with the little red straw it should be easy enough?

I'd try tranny or engine oil before WD.

I'd take a volt meter and put a load on the battery (run test) and see what the voltage does. If it tanks when the motor tries to spin, battery is discharged or bad. First thing I'd try is a known good battery.

Charged the battery and still wouldn't spin it. Hit it with a little wd-40 and still no spin, but after it clicked to try to spin I hit it and away she went. Good to go now. Must have had a little trash or tight spot that the wd-40 cleaned out.
