Homeowners/auto insurance - body shop guys and roofers??

There's a GEICO thread going right now, but I am shopping around among all carriers. I'm not just looking for cheapest insurance company though. I want to make sure that I go with a company that gives good claims service as well.

I want to hear from body shop guys and roofers and other home contractors that have experience with insurance claims. Which companies treat their policyholders well, and which ones don't?

I am looking as well. Will be following...

I have Germania and they have been quick to take care of claims...but have gone up quite a bit in price.

Sate Farm was always excellent about paying claims. However their prices increases forced me to move along. I have Travelers and Safeco now. So far been pleased but I haven't had to file a claim either.

My brother is a body shop guy and he has said in the past the geico and progressive will attempt to have repairs done using lots of bondo instead of body panels. BUT! it has been several years since i have any such conversations with him about auto repairs

I switched to Germania a couple years ago and became an agent with them last year.
I can tell you that people come in from time to time and are very pleased with claims response and service. But at the same time there will be a few that may not be so happy.
I guess it all depends on what the customer THINKS is right regardless of what their policy reads

I'm a body man and I'll tell anyone and everyone that geico is the worst from a quality of repair standpoint. I know they're cheap but you get what you pay for. If you don't care if cheap parts are put on your car then by all means use them. Same goes with shops. If the shop you go to is one of the big chains and they're on geicos direct repair program then run away! Most of the big names are ok but none of them are great. Some use cheap parts more than others.

My parents have used the same agent for as long as i know who has become a family friend and i have been with them as well. They were farmers but had some issues and they werent good wtih claims. My agent swithced to Germania and got my quotes today and it saved us 700/yr on home and we are paying 30 less a month for both vehicles than we were paying for just her care alone. Bell-scott insurance agency in waxahachie, his secretary Janet is great

We have Allstate. We haven't had any issues yet however we switched from usaa. Our premiums were getting a little high.

.....and some companies request used parts in some cases if they can be found. Wild!

Been ten years since I've been around the body shop business but sounds like it hasn't changed much, the cheaper the insurance the lower the quality of what you get in return.
10 yrs ago the guys hated to see the gieco pull up.
