I don't remember who I've told and who I haven't so I'll start from the beginning.
On Tuesday my mother (Lola Belle) started to have chest pains and my dad (Lewis Oliver) took her to the ER at the hospital at Olney. Thank goodness they had the good sense to realize her condition was beyond what they could manage there and sent her by ambulane to Wichita Falls to United Regional Health Center.
She was admitted and began to undergo tests and it was determined that she had had a heart attack. The doctors immediately put her on blood thinners until they could determine a course of treatment. Later that night her doctor came in to discuss the options and indicated that they would keep her on the blood thinner for a few days and then either do a catheterization and implant stints or if necessary perform bypass surgery.
While the doctor was in the room she suffered another heart attack and he made the decision to do the catheterization and stints immediately and did so. They implanted one stint in the artery giving her the most trouble and the plan was to do bypass surgery on the following Monday (yesterday).
On Thursday night, she suffered another bad spell and the doctor was faced with the decision of trying to put the surgery off until Monday or do the already risky surgery with the added risk of severe bleeding due to the blood thinners in her system.
Turns out the spell Thrusday night was not a heart attack so he felt better about delaying the surgery until yesterday.
They took mom into the OR about 7:30 yesterday morning and she didn't get into a room until almost 6PM last night. The Dr said it was a very difficult surgery due to the fact that they had a hard time finding enough good veins to do the bypass surgery. They weren't able to retrieve the veins by orthoscopic surgery so actully had to go into both legs to find veins.
She had a 5-way bypass. Dr said she had 2 arteries that were 100% clogged and the other 3 were 95% clogged. I don't know how she managed to live long enough to have a heart attack in the first place! She is very lucky to be alive!
When we saw her last night she was still heavily sedated and on a respirator and had a temporary pace maker attached. Her blood pressure was a little high and her blood count was low but they were giving her blood and monitoring the pressure. They told us that she would be sedated for the night and the best thing was for us to go home and get some rest. I had worked at Olney PD until 2:30 that morning and she was in good hands so that sounded pretty good to me.
I called the hospital just now and they said that she was still sedated and resting but was doing very well. BP was under control and her vital signs looked good.
There are gonna be some major lifestyle changes for her and my dad when she recovers and we will need lots of prayers and encouragement to make sure they do what they need to do.
I sincerely appreciate all the prayers and concerns of everyone here and ask that you continue to keep them in your prayers as my mother recovers.
