I decided to chronicle my hunts at Lake Georgetown this year and post them on here.
I hope I dont bore you guys and gals too much!
I arrived on Monday afternoon at about 5:30 at the gate, got all of my equipment, cooler, etc.
I arrived at the blind by 5:45. I checked the Trail Cam and noticed that the 8 point buck came in that morning at about 4 am.
One of the does came in at about 7:55 pm Sunday evening. I got excited and hoped she would come in a little earlier that evening (as sunset was at 7:20 pm).
I did notice about 2/3 or the corn I threw down Sunday morning was gone.
I threw some more down but noticed that since I removed my tripod and feeder, they did not go near the corn under the feeder which I hung from a tree branch 15 yards from my blind.
Sooner or later, they will discover it.
I did hear another feeder go off at 6:00 pm as it has done the last week or so as I was setting up.
It was now 6:30, chugged some gatorade and decided to sling a few from the blind.
It was about 22 yards.
Took out field points and 1st shot was high and to the right.
All of the others were right there as I just missed the gatorade filled with dirt to the left.
As a result of me missing, I lost one arrow in the tall grass and broke the field tip and shattered the arrow on the other. Oh well, I now knew where I had to shot when the doe would come in hopfully within the next hour.
Three things I forgot:
1. My folding chair (sat on the chair from my tripod that was on the ground)
2. Thermacell (got eaten alive as sunset came)
3. Working flashlight. The two I had were broke. My hat light had new batteries but had a short, tried to fix it with my pocket knife but made it worse. My large 5 million candle light had a broken switch. I need to buy another switch.
The only light I had working was my Hawg Lite!!!
By that time it was sunset (7:20) I got ready and got my arrow locked and waited.... waited
all of a sudden....
I heard some loud dead branch breaks about 50 yards to the east of me near the creek..
But it seemed too loud.. way too loud!!!!
All of a sudden, coming up the path was a guy in a moutain bike. CRAP!!!
I dont know if I was more ****** or what, but as I was about to say something, another bike came up and it was his son who was hufffing and puffing!!
I decided not to say anything as they never saw me even though I was 12 yards from them.
I sat there and said to myself "Oh well!" my night was most likely ruined as they might have scared every deer within 300 yards.
I then looked out to the west and took this pic. It made me smile.
I waited till 7:50 and packed up and hiked back the 1/3 mile back to the truck.
As I was about to leave, the park rangers were coming up the access road as they were bringing up the hunter who they guided that evening!! They had plenty of deer but no luck either.
Until next time, which is hopefully Thursday evening. If not, I will be doing a guided hunt on Saturday morning!!!
Over and out!!!
