    Computer Issue/Help

I have an HP desktop at home that is about 6 years old. I don't use it to often, so I got behind on windows updates. Did about 70 last week and everything seemed fine. Over the weekend, lock screen wouldn't let me type in my password- mouse pointer moved but I couldn't type. Caps lock etc lightw will come on/go off on the keyboard. I restarted it and I can get it to log on (regular mode, should I do safe mode?), but it freezes up and wont do anything. I am desperately trying to copy all my pictures off of it. Don't care if it ever works again after that. It will get as far as starting to copy the pics to an external drive, sits a while, and shuts down. What can I do?

At that age, Cmos battery probably needs replacing.

Not too proud to admit I had to google... Is it as easy as it seems to replace it? Worth a shot for sure.

        Have you tried Safe Mode?

Reboot computer, and while it's booting keep tapping the F8 key.

This should bypass any new drivers that were likely installed during the win-update process.
