    Water Well at property question????

I purchased my retirement property in the Hill Country a year ago. It's the first time I've ever used a water well. It's been used for typical household stuff....showers, washing dishes and so on.

I think my error started when I started filling a water tote to water newly planted fruit trees. The water stopped running last weekend mid-shower (I kid you not.....finished rinsing off with water bottles). I'm worried I may have used too much water too fast.

I realize it might be the pump, but let's pretend it's not. 100 ft well.

Question: Will the well start to refill itself where I can use it again? You know, seep back in and cover the pump?

It could be a problem with the rest of your system, a small schrader valve caused the same problem with mine. I would call a well guy.

From the shallow wells I have seen, if you pumped them "dry" they would "recharge" within a few hours...But once you get below the water table you are out of luck. That being said if it just stopped abruptly, could very likely be a pump issue.

Call a water well service company to look into your issue. Could be a blown fuse or a number of other things I reckon.

I have had that happen several times. It has always been the pressure switch getting stuck in the off position. If you were out of water the pump would be running but no water flowing. At only 100 feet you could hear the pump without even putting your ear to a pipe.

If you don't hear the pump running take a stick or rock and tap the small rectangular electrical box mounted between the well and pressure tank. If that works plan on getting a new pressure switch and having it installed. It might also be fire ants in the switch contacts keeping the contacts seperated.

            Thanks for the in-put fellers

If it ran dry then the pump would burn up unless you had a cut out for that. It could be the starting capacitor or the breaker.

I had fire ants stuck in the contacts on my pressure switch just last week

If you don't have fire ants in the pressure switch look for the electrical box (where the capacitor is located). Inside you should find an electric breaker, it could be a bad breaker or simply just amped out. Most electric starter box's have a reset bottom located on the bottom of the box - push it.) If that doesn't work call a well man, probably a bad pump and/or motor.

pressure switch and fire ants would be my guess.
