Beetle Colonies

Does anyone have their own beetle colony? How much work are these? I have a skull that needs to be done, and I'm looking at starting my own colony for this season. I figure that I'll have at least a couple more to do this year as season is just starting. For the cost of one cleaning, I can get a colony ordered. I'd like to hear some feedback on upkeep and such from those of you that have had your own.

There is a lot more to it than just ordering bugs. You have to have keep the temp and humidity correct. You will need a bunch of bugs to clean one skull or you won't get the results you want. Then you have to worry about other things killing your bugs like mites, spiders, ect.

It is honestly not worth it if you o my do a few a year.

You will also need to build a good tank so you don't let your new pets get loose.

I run 5 colonies and there's a lot of work to it, as already said above. I did a little over 225 skulls last year with mine. If your looking at just doing a couple, maceration is probably your best bet. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just bite the bullet and have this one done. I boiled a deer skull last year, but it was just a really nice cull. This one is my first bull elk, so I would like it to be done right.
