    Duck Shells?

I'm fairly new to duck hunting (only my second season to hunt) and last year I really didn't explore duck shells out side of Winchesters 3". I'm wondering what you guys would suggest I try this season. I'm shooting a 12 gauge Franchi Affinity.

I shoot Fiocchi steel. You can pick up a case at Rogers Sporting Goods for $110. It's worked pretty good so far.

My opinion may not matter, but for the money, winchester Xpert Steel shot 3" 1 1/8 Oz #3 shot is the way to go...I can't buy into all the hype of the Heavi Metal shells or the Black Clouds for $30.00 a box....many birds have been killed without un-arsing that kinda coin for some steel shot....I'd personally rather make a one time investment in a good extended choke or whatever fits you than I would continuously pay 2.00 per shell in a box of 25 just because someone on tv uses them or it has a Yeti sticker on it. Lol

I shoot Kents in 3" and 3-1/2" depending on where and what I am shooting. Generally shoot 4 shot in the 3" and 2 shot in the 3-1/2". Have shot Winchester and Remington as well, just prefer the Kents.

Kent faststeel are good affordable, and what I used most of the last 2 seasons. 3in #4's. I don't really buy in to all the hype of the heavy steel, tungsten, black cloud super shells. Way too expensive, and I can still kill limits with shells that are half the price per box.

Yeah, I definitely cant see my self buying shells for $30 dollars a box or anything like that. I understand why some would do so but my pockets aren't that deep.

I can't figure out why people buy them other than the duck commander tells them to or just the thought that more expensive is always better.

I prefer 3" #2 in 1oz 1/4. Not to worried about the brand just pick up what I can for a decent price. I would suggest investing in a good after market choke though.

Rogers Sporting Goods has pretty good by the case prices and most of the time offers free shipping.

#6 lead and be done with it!

I agree with most of this. All the hyped up loads are marketing ploys. I've determined Black cloud is aptly named because my barrel is filthy after shooting them. The Hevi alloys do have better "punch" to them, similar to lead, but too overpriced to justify the advantage.

I will say quality lead over discount is justifiable. Kent, Rio & Fiocchi all make good shells and seem to leave less junk in my barrel etc

Do you have any buddies that hunt with leftovers from last year?

Best way to know what your gun wants is to pattern various load/choke combinations at the range you expect to take the majority of your shots and choose the shell that gives you whatever pattern density you're looking for!

I don't shoot the high dollar stuff either, Kent and Federal work just as well for a lot less.

I've been on an Estate shell kick last few years shooting their 3" #6 steel. Love them for just about all types of shooting public and private. I have gotten them off Able ammo pretty cheap too

Yup, ive killed lots of geese, crane and ducks with these back in the day.

However, Ive been shooting Kent Fasteel and Rio Bluesteel for the past 2 years. They perform through all my shotguns flawlessly and are excellent quality. Ive also been getting them at one heck of a price. Picked up cases of the Rio for $90 each and same for the Kents.

I would say spend your money on a briley or kicks choke and shoot these shells.
