When I had that I would just wrap it tightly with an Ace bandage during the day and hobble around on it. I took the bandage off at night while in bed. For me the fluid would be gone in 3 days or so. I had no ACL(and still dont) so I was prone to injuring the knee and when I did, it would swell up with fluid. Hope yours gets better. What did you do that you have fluid build up and your knee?

This, and ibuprofen. But go see a Dr.

Have no idea what I did. Only thing I can remember is a bruise from a trailer tongue several weeks ago.

Swelling will go down..I have knee issues and a bag of frozen peas or corn wrapped around joint for an hour really helps fluids get a absorbed

I've had my knee drained. Not too big of a deal, once you get over the size of the needle.

CVS has an oversized rectangular freeze pak(cloth covered not plastic) I keep a couple in the freezer and use them as needed.
That being said, draining and then getting the magic shot is hard to beat.

With your history of banging your knee, I'd go to the doc as a precaution. I did something similar about 40 years ago and ended up with cellulitis--aka blood poisoning. I noticed it when it looked like my leg was the same size from the knee to my ankle. Doc poked a hole in a "soft spot" and drained out about 2 tablespoons of creamy pus--yuck!

Is the fluid running down from your knee to your ankle? I did something to my knee a few months ago. Don't know what I did, I don't remember banging or twisting it or anything. Anyway, my ankle was swelling up big time, went to the doc and he took x-rays and told me I had damaged it somehow and scheduled an MRI. In the meantime he gave me a cortisone shot. It helped for a couple days then my knee went back to hurting. Couple weeks later we had a 3 day weekend so I rested it the whole time. Swelling went down and pain went away and hasn't bothered me since.
When i had went to the doc earlier he said I might have had a torn miniscus. I never did the MRI.

In my case, I injured my knee somehow which created fluid in the bursa sac. Bursa sac is behind the knee, it ruptured causing fluid to run down my leg into my ankle.
