    Dove hunting mossy tanks

Anyone ever noticed a difference in the amount of luck they've had hunting over moss covered tank vs a nice well kept tank?

Nope. What's been your experience, better with moss or without?

Without. I wonder if that's pretty common

They need to be able to land and walk down to the water.

Dirt banks, are better. (all things being equal) food source, resting/shade/sitting trees, roosts, etc.

This is what I have been hunting last night and today and there hasn't been as much activity as I had hoped. Only got 4 so far, lost one and one miss. Pretty slow.

            Just drove home from Goliad.
Saw a few doves, but lots of potholes of water around. Mour tank is covered in moss too.

Did see some healthy young bucks.

A pond with no vegetation in it isn't very good for wildlife

This is the other side of the pond I'm hunting. I'm just set up in the flat side off the banks.

^This. You have to have bare edges. Rock pits or freshly dug ponds are the ticket.

Over the weekend I watched a tank that is low from the lack of rain for a few minutes. It has the dirt edges(tons of hog, deer, and coon tracks)and some ten to fifteen foot trees around it. Two dove lit near the waters edge and several landed in the trees nearby. There was some moss but the wildlife seemed to be hitting it fine.

Agree on the dirt/gravel bank around the edge of the tank. Mesquites around the pond are a plus as well. Moss doesn't matter much as long as it doesn't cover the entire water surface.

Those pics look like a decent dove killing spot.

I thought it would be too but there was little activity.
