What's a good representative Axis measure?

Like the title says, what does a good representative measure? Are there any tips judging on the hoof? What might a mature buck or doe weigh?

All I can say is that a mature axis buck is a rather large animal compared to a hill country whitetail.

32" main beams are pretty good.
      36" main beams are exceptional.

A mature buck will weigh 225ish pounds.
      A mature doe, 125ish pounds.

If it gets your heart pounding, shoot it!

When a mature buck w/ a typical frame is feeding with his nose on the ground, his beams should extend at least to his shoulders

I'd say 30" and above main beams are trophy grade typical Axis. Measurements above that are one heck of a free range Axis. I agree with the weights listed above. The Axis I see and hunt in Kerrville and on my place in Harper, dwarf the Whitetail body size and dominate the feeder. Does are very good eating.

A 28 inch axis is a great Rep..
              30 is good.
              Anything over 32 is great.

I agree with the weight and antler length on the bucks, but have not personally seen any does over 70 pounds. And yes, they are very good eating.

30" is a good benchmark to shoot for.
