What makes a good lie? It has to be believable. If I told you that I could turn myself into a bird, that would be a lame lie because we know that is impossible. If I told you that I ate a bowl of Lucky Charms this morning you would have a hard time knowing whether I am lying to you. One, cereal is a common breakfast food. Two, it is a common cereal for kids to eat...and I have kids. So it is totally believable that I have that cereal at my house and I ate it this morning for breakfast.
Just in case you didn't know, the devil is really good at lying. When we are tempted with evil desires in life, that is the devil lying to us. The devils knows when you are weakest. He will wait until you are lonely and desperate (Matthew 4: 2-3). The devil knows how to lie in ways that are 100% believable (Matthew 4: 5-6). If you are separated from the truth, the lies that he tells seem so believable that you just go along with it. The reason that the devil is so good at lying is because he is using our own desires and weaknesses against us. He makes it difficult for us to see the danger in each temptation.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. 1 Peter 5: 8-9
When lions hunt they separate the weakest from the herd and devour them. The devil tries to do the same to us. He makes us believe that we are the only ones with struggles in life and slowly we distance ourselves from the truth that can keep us safe. You must know that we cannot do life alone.
