It wasn't uncommon to be walking to/from your stand in the dark and hearing baby alligators "chirping" and calling for thier mama . Deer stands were along levees overlooking bayous and marsh full of gators and snakes

Also you had to retrieve your deer immediately or the alligators would claim your kill
Oh HAIL NO!!!! Not this slow fat boy!! You are a brave man CB!

A few years ago, I was sitting in a tripod on the edge of a marsh and kept hearing something in the brush breaking twigs/sticks and rustling the leaves... couldn't see a thing... All of a sudden I looked almost straight down below my tripod and a gator about 8 1/2 foot long came walking slowly toward my stand... he apparently had crawled out of a little creek and was headed to the marsh. By the time I got my camera turned around, all I got was a short video of him sliding off into the water and swimming away... one of the weirdest things I have encountered in the woods... There's not a morning I don't think about that when walking into that stand (though its no longer a tripod but a ground blind)...

We deal with bears but I'd be more fearful of the Gators. At least bears run from you.....generally speaking.
