    Devils River.... need some input

Hey everyone... I have a kayaking trip coming up for the end of this moth going down the devil's river. I have some concerns with water level and whatnot... I have heard that its a bit low. I don't mind that so much, but I don't want to haul my kayak for miles on my back either. Has anyone been on there recently? Any advice on places to look?

    Thank you

    Ryan

We have a place on the river. Just went this past weekend. It's low and you'll have to drag it in a few places for sure. Just don't trash it out or trespass. Don't want it to look like the Fio or Comal river. It's a nice hindin gem. Have a good and safe trip.

put in @ San Pedro Point Paddler Camp

        take out @ Devil's Back
J Riley, you think its worth doing in this low water state, or should we put it off and do big bend and hit up Devil's River when there is a bit more water?

Granted we did it earlier this year, but I don't think it will be that bad. You'll get hung up on the occasional rock and a few chutes won't be runnable, but I would still go. Now if you were putting it at Bakers I would have a different opinion.

"A bit low" is nothing but normal for the Devil's. Plan on dragging your boats on all but the very best days. That's just how it is out there. The Devil's is tough, but it's totally worth it.

If I were you, I would get some real data, as in CFS of river flow, and compare it to normal levels.

I have a trip planned for October with Amistad Adventures. They told me that if they don't get any rain between now and then, they would refund my money. This is for a 13-mile float between Del Norte and Big Satan.

We went the first part of May. Regardless of what time you go you'll be dragging over some rapids, but it won't be long drags. There's still plenty of open water. I would still go.

There are deep channels in much of the river, but there are some wide, shallow spots where you'll have to drag some. The good news is when you're not dragging, you'll be paddling against a strong south wind.

I still would. It's a great place. Just like these other guys have said you have to drag a few spots and the big holes with the south wind sucks the most. There was groups of kayakers going down this past weekend.

When are you going? We've got he same trip planned with Amistad Expeditions 10/23-10/26. Been keeping an eye on the water levels.
