    Help (Shooting Left)

New to the compound bow and I have really been shooting left when I back up to 30+ yards. At 20 yards I'm very consistent (Can pretty much put the arrow where I want to) so it can't be the sights. Once I back up I tend to shoot way left. Sometimes it seems to be really bad so it is obvious that I am doing something wrong and I can't figure out what I'm doing due to being new at this.

Got a month to get this fixed because most of my shots from my bow stand are going to be 25-35 yard shots.

When I say left I mean wayyyy left too. Like 1-2 feet at times.

Sounds like you are extremely out of tune. Try moving your rest to the right a little at a time. As long as your arrows don't start hitting way right, then you are starting to find your how's center shot.

Disclaimer: this is assuming a properly tuned bow. Take it to a local shop and have them tune it up for you before messing with anything.

Are you gripping the handle tightly or relaxing the hand holding the bow? I like to relax my hand and extend all fingers out allowing the grip to pressure between my index finger and thumb area. When I release I catch the bow as it follows through slightly falling.

You sir deserve a medal! Loosened up my death grip on the handle and my arrows flew straight. I even gripped it really tight just to be sure and when I gripped it tight the arrow flew way left again.

That is odd. Doesn't feel like your doing anything different, but apparently something cause the bow to pull left when you grip the handle tight.

What you're doing is torquing the riser by pushing the side closest to you to the right and the side furthest away to the left. This causes the power stroke of the bow to be focused to the left and not straight forward.

^^^ this ^^^ From time to time I catch my self gripping the bow or closing my hand to soon after the release and torque the bow. My shots go right as I shoot left handed.

Touch the tips of your left thumb and 1st finger together in front of the riser, and relax/extend the 3 fingers below. That plus an adjusted strap on the bow so you're not afraid it will fall out of your hand may fix the problem. After the shot, most bows with a stabilizer will tilt forward from the center of mass and pivot point naturally.
