Now I know why I hear frustation over the VA hospitals for American vets who served.
About 3 weeks ago my dad was in town (Austin area) so we can send my son off to college. He had a cough and it got worse.
I took him to the Temple VA early saturday morning as he looked weak.
After numerous other issues (wrong entrance, two check in people argueing for 2 minutes on bed counts, nurse sending us back to check in which we did, staff losing my dads wallet which was found in trash 2 hours later), I finally talked to two intern drs.
One asked questions and said they could not tie into the system in El Paso to see his past records (William Beaumont Hospital). I shook my head.
Second intern asked the same questions as he was 5 feet from us. I let it go.
Nurses were great.
Come to this week as my dad is back home. He had blood work on Monday, met cardiologist Tuesday and he had pnemonia in one lung only (rarity they told him) and today he visits his VA dr he had for years at William Beamont and he told my dad to stopy taking blood thinner medicine that the Temple VA told him to take to prevent a clot/stroke.
***???
I am assumming that his dr in El Paso has no connection to his stay in Temple as the Temple VA has no medical records of his prescriptions/visits in El Paso.
****ing Govt.
Sorry for the rant. I will be making calls to both VA medical centers tomorrow.
