    Going back to school.

So I started taking classes again at the old age of 36. I did not do very well the first go around 17-18 years ago. Anyway I'm having a bit of trouble with a history class. The research, homework and test are very easy for me. The problem is my instructor goes on these anti GW rants at the start of class. She also hands out what she calls accurate historical accounts from "Common Dreams. org". The most recent one about Columbus day.

Here is a quote from one of the articles she has handed out:

"This wétiko type of theft and warfare is practiced daily by farmers and ranchers worldwide against wolves, coyotes, insects, animals and trees of the rainforest; and against indigenous tribes living in the jungles and rainforests. It is our way of life. It comes out of our foundational cultural notions."

So far I have gotten her to admit that she is a feminist to the class. Last week she gave her rendition of the economic crisis. This is all very bothersome to me. I have spent my own hard earned money to try and get some much needed credits all to hear about a persons political AGENDA.
It is a waste of my time.

How do you fellow students deal with this sort of stuff?

Happens all the time. Let her say what she wants, your not gonna change what she teaches or her opinion. Just get through the class and be done with her

I battled it out with liberal/borderline communist professors at U of Houston went I went back to school. I made them look silly at every opportunity. It didn't hurt my grades (3.93 GPA). I couldn't stand seeing them brainwashing the 18-20 year olds with all that psychobabble.

I had one femi-nazi tell me I was the best student she ever had in 20 years. She wrote me a glowing letter to get into a graduate program!

Congrats on going back to school.

As far as the nutjob instructors, they are just part of it. Don't know what you can do about it

That is good to know about the letter. I just want to talk about the class subject. Instead we get anti-religon, anti-anglo male, anti-conservitive propaganda spewed at any chance.

It's tough because I am the only white male in the class.

You know what? I'm very proud that you have decided to attend college. It takes a lot of motivation and maturity for someone our age to return to school. My mother started college when she was about your age.

This instructor's babbling is complete Bull S***.

Go talk to the Dean of liberal arts college. The instructor is supposed to teach history - not provide her political or social opinions. If the dean doesn't solve the problem, go to the Provost of the college.

I work for a major university system. This is the protocal to follow. Usually, the Provost will take care of it, but if not, go to the President. You pay too much money for college to have some dumb nut to impose her opinions in a class that is supposed to teach historical fact.

Nothing ticks me off more than that about universities. They keep raising tuiton and expect you to pay for it, yet they provide less than adequate instruction.

btw - where do you go to school? I'm sure Sean Hannity would love to talk to her. Call him and give him her name and number.

Don't waste your good time and energy on the liberal anti-hunters.

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig".

Congrats on going back to school. Learning is an acquired skill, and if you need help with study skills, all schools have somebody who can help you with the how-to-do-it.

My daughter's school pushes hard the "2 plus 1" concept. For every 1 hour of classroom time, their data says successful students average 2 hours of outside the classroom time, and as freshman they work out a daily planner with an advisor of what time/days will they study for each course. I wish I'd known or been told that my 1st go-around as an undergrad, which only lasted 1.5 years before I quit, but I went back nights and then weekends for 3 college degrees.

You got to let it go. I spent 7 years dealing with this. Luckily after my second year as an Undergraduate I just gave up worrying about it. You can gripe until you are blue in the face, but there is nothing you can do. Just let it go, or you will stay mad 24-7 and shorten your life. It isn't worth it.

This is the absolute worst thing you can do. They are going to tell you, this is a University, she is a Professor and we believe in Academic Freedom. They will NOT tell the Professor what to do. You will spend hours beating your head against a bureaucratic wall and you will get NOTHING for you trouble.

Remember, liberals do not fight fairly, don't try to argue with a professor. It's like trying to have a fair fight with a gang-banger if you find yourself in their 'hood' in error- every other one will join the gang-up on you.

Avoid signing up for another one of her classes if you can.
                      It's just a semester.

I would let it go, if she calls on you for an opinion give her the truth. Otherwise dont offer it and make the grades. All the time you spend worrying about what she is saying about politics or otherwise non-history just listen and study curriculum. I remember being in a brit lit class and having some guy in a pony tail sayin all people around here do is say "hey lets go kill something" I made an A and kept my mouth shut other than smilin about it.
Good luck and congrats for goin back.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I will just ignore her and do my own thing.

She did take my recommendation for a field trip though. We will be seeing the
