Another semi live elk hunt/prep/scouting thread

I keep seeing all these elk threads and I can't contain myself anymore. My group is headed to CO on the 13th and we are in the final stages of prep for the hunt. We are doing a backpack trip into wilderness in an OTC unit for 10 days. I have not bought a license and don't plan on it unless we can find some promising sign. It's a risk but I am willing to loose a day of hunting instead of loosing the $600 of a license. I figured I could put up some info over the next week and then hopefully keep folks updated as service allows (we will be above 10,000 ft most of the time so I expect decent service).

To start I will put up a little gear list. Keep in mind I don't have the budget that most of you have. Some of my stuff is nice but a lot needs to be upgraded.

Sleeping bag: cabelas 15 degree mummy that I bought used and is 25 years old
    Pad: exped synmat hyperlite
    Tent: eureka solitare
    Boots: lowa renegade
Pack: kifaru bikini with highcamp 4800 bag
    Pants: prana zion stretch
Water filter: sawyer squeeze mini with quick connect for a bladder
Stove: msr pocket rocket with 8 oz fuel
    Bow: 63# recurve
    Arrows: Easton gamegetter 400 (2117)
    Broadheads: Magnus stinger 150

That kind of covers the basics. I may go into detail about some other odds and ends that I have as well. I'm sure leanmachine ( also going on the trip) will chime in on this at some point as well.

These are some game bags I finished making last night. Bought two pillow cases and basically sewed a seam up the middle of each to make 4 bags. A draw string will close them at the top. The idea is that they are tall and narrow so when stuffed full of meat they will pack similar to a leg quarter or even a bag of concrete. I will probably make at least 4 more. I also have some heavy duty plastic bags to put the game bags in and sink them in a creek until I can get them all packed out. That's the theory and I sure hope I get to test it
