Backing up text messages on AT&T iPhone?

Does anyone know of a good app or program (preferably free) that will back-up text messages? I got a new iPhone 6, went through all the rigmarole of transferring contacts, music, apps, etc, but text messages did not transfer. I need to retrieve and keep all the text messages (mainly for business purposes) that I had on the 5 and transfer them to my new 6. I've Googled it and explored a couple of programs that ended up seeming kinda sketchy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I have upgraded to newer iphones I back up my old phone with iTunes and then restore to my new phone and everything was transferred to the new phone. I have never had AT&T transfer any of my data. Usually the only thing I have to do is customize the settings for the new phone.

I did that. I don't know if I had the settings all correct to transfer the text messages, but I did back up the old phone in iTunes before I "synced" the new phone.

Just go to person in contacts and touch message. I believe you will see all your past text messages

Another way to save the info would be to take screen shots, then email them to yourself. Not as convenient though.

Well, had you had an Android phone, say Galaxy S6, you could have easily transfered everything over via Google+account. Sorry about your Iphone luck.
