I haven't heard of that, but maybe it's just an informal first interview? I would still treat it like a formal interview, and definitely not consume much if any alcohol. I would take my cues from with the other person is doing. If he is buying a beer, I'd buy one and nurse it. If he is getting soda or something, I would do that

Yep heard of it. Dont treat it as a formal interview. Dont get dressed up in a suit for it. Jeans/khakis and polo type shirt. Drinking is fine just dont over do it. He wants to see you and your personality not how well you clean up for the interview. Moderation is key to drinking and being yourself. Be really nice and patient with the wait staff.

Now if he starts offering shots and wants to kick it up a few notches, go with him. If he needs a wingman, do what you have to do...

From a mental perspective treat it as a formal interview. However, don't be a robot, be talkative and lively, within reason.

Dress casual (button up, jeans, tucked in shirt, etc.).

I've never heard of this, but actually sounds like a decent idea. Get more of a true sense of a personality.

Mind if I ask what kind of job this is for?

Yeah, pretty common. Basically a first get to know you type interview in a more relaxed atmosphere. They will be looking for whether or not they think your personality fits.

Had one a long time ago in a lounge on Telephone Rd at 10:00 am on a Sunday. Got the job, and it took about 4 hours to realize the owner was a horrible drunk.

Actually had things like this in College. At career fairs, a company would call you up and invite you out for drinks/social hour.

I'd just dress casual and be yourself. If it is somebody you will work with or will be your boss, realize this is a good opportunity to find out who they are and if they are somebody you want to work for as a person.

Been there done that. First interview was Moondog in Rockport on a Friday evening. Next interview was that Saturday morning in a duck blind in St. Charles Bay. Needless to say, I got (and still have) the job.

I guess, it depends on the field of work... never really heard of this practice. but, not opposed to it ... perhaps to find out if the candidate is a Lush.. JK,

All sales job interviews should be at happy hour. Every sales guy that I've ever worked with the deals were usually sealed over drinks. I tested a Microsoft sales guy's open tab years ago. Bought every girl in the bar a shot of their choice on his tab. I still work with them some and still to this day, my host gets the next day off to recover.
