I have not looked into it, but would that possibly be a violation of the agreement between the pipeline company and the landowner? What generally are the "use rules" for a pipeline easement?

Is it a Kinder Morgan Pipeline?

My pipeline company so far has called me before they mowed. That said - there is an issue of fencing the easement - the easement usually calls for no permenent structures on it - so they could remove your fence at will.

I do not recall any restriction about disking on mine them - pipes are 3' under. That said, would prefer to go no-till.

for what it's worth, past pipelines were installed and forgotten. New easements are getting a LOT more traffic primarily due to a second easement on top of the first for surface water pipes - they had to bring in and fuel booster pumps. Likewise running the line is the fastest way between the pumps I guess.

I'm not sure who built it but is is one that is running from Sweetwater all the way to somewhere around Corsicana. Sunoco maybe?

Who owns it not built it. It'll be on the signs. Our depth of cover normally runs 30" plus. But erosion can cut that down quite a bit. You need to call. Before breaking that ground you need a 1 Call Ticket. Might save your life. Most will not let you till. We don't.

This^. Broadcast and drag won't hurt anything. If wanna disc or till you need a one call. ROW posts will have a phone number on them. Call that number and ask for pipeline tech responsible for that line to contact you. Talk with him about fencing and leaving access for them. Most will work with ya.

Thanks - i figured some of the pipeline hands around here could tell me what's what. I will find a sign with a phone # and make a call.

Perfect example of not breaking ground on a pipeline without a 1 call. See that 4" line crossing the ROW? That's a foreign gas line we found today. That pipeline was installed 56 years ago. That 4" was not on any prints anywhere.

John, if nothing else get you some of that "throw and grow" stuff that is available. It's got some good stuff in it that will come up and grow broad leaf browse for deer quick, and I think it's designed for Fall plots... the seeds are all annuals so nothing will last longer than a year. We've use the stuff out west as well as east Texas. If it gets any moisture, all sorts of stuff will come up and get green and the deer seem to love it.

call and ask if they have already seeded it. they usually put grass foir erosion control. if they haven't seeded it yet, get the contact for the person seeding it and ask if you can supply some seeds and see what they say.

I was there when they seeded ours and I asked the guy about adding my own seeds and said if we had the seeds just add them, we didn't though.

If its been planted then you have a good chance that it's oats, wheat or rye. Sounds like they used a drill seeder and then blew straw over it.

We never use those. It's just a grass mix. Not anything really forage able like oats etc. also it's normally broadcast. We can't use a seed drill without a new 1 call ticket.

Post up the company name when ya find out who it is. If it's one of ours, I'll be happy to ride out on a Saturday morning in October and take some soil samples for you. Usually best time to sample is about 30mins before daylight til 10 am, so I'd have to ask that y'all keep the property vacant for me during that time.
