    building under a power line

what are the rules on adding onto a cabin next to a power line. Can you build under it? how far away can you build it? How much does it cost for them to move it? Taylor county

Check with the utility company that owns it. Most will not let you build under it. Their easement may specify how much distance you have to stay away.

My power line easement calls for 15 foot on both sides of the pole

Usually no permanent structures within the easement. Depends on the size of the line running your property. A 345kv typically is 100-150' easement (50'-75' on either side on the line. All the wording will be in the easement that you can request from your utility company. Might check one of the pole structures for any additional info. Should have a structure ID number that will help the utility company identify the property in question easier.

I know someone that built a boat dock under a power line and had to tear it down 6 months later. $30K out the door.

I just checked up here north of Lufkin with deep east tx coop. They told me the easements were 10' on each side on a two phase line and 15' on each side of a three phase line.
