Based of antler to the tip of antler more or less......easier to estimate 13 inches in this manner and mature bucks with narrow spreads make the hit list

Ok so just to make sure I have read all of these right

Mississippi - Ear to ear in alert position equals 10" inside spread

Texas - Ear to ear in alert position equals 13" inside spread

Arkansas - Ear to ear in alert position equals 15" inside spread

Sorry I have only hunted deer in Texas and Indiana but a white tailed deer is a white tailed deer correct? Are the tape measures different in each state?

If a buck is mature, and barely on the line and I was on that jury I would give the guy a pass.

I hunt in Jasper and everyone on my lease is so scared to accidentally shoot a buck under AR...as am i...but...we have a lot of 5 year old 130"ers taken off every year. I would prefer that to seeing all these 3 year old barely legal bucks being taken down.

The perfect example below. The small 9 pt is very close to AR but he is really young. In ETX a lot of people would shoot him without hesitation....but then you would grow them like his buddy behind him. My property is low fence and non protein fed. Im the only person who even feeds year round. Mostly gun hunters who show up and hunt the month of november and call it quits. im in there from Bow season thru muzzle loader season

8-9" wide,, instead I wound up shooting a 2.5 year old because I wanted meat, and was not seeing any does....
The bad thing is the law was intended to save the young deer so I would not have done this. I would do what I think is the right thing to do. To me it's like speeding to the hospital, I'm just gonna take the chance. That being said I probably wouldn't have shot either one but if I was gonna shoot one I would have shot the illegal one cause I feel it's the best one to kill but I havnt ran into a GW in 15 years.

but mature bucks with short beams don't.
