I have 2.25 acres in kent county tilled up and ready to plant. My question is when do you plant wheat and when do you fertilize? Can you broadcast seed, drag it then spread fertilizer the same day? Or should I put fertilizer down ASAP then seed in a couple weeks? Thanks for any help

When to seed/fertilize a food plot
I usually just rent a buggy that has the seed and fertilizer blended together from the feed store, cost a whole $1. Pull it behind the tractor and let it sling it all together, then drag afterwards. As far as planting times call the feed store and ask them. I imagine no later than Nov 1.

Oh , and I spread fertilizer right before I plant, then drag it all.

We're just North of the Kent/Dickens Co Line, and have struck out for having good wheat plots the last couple years by procrastinating until Oct 1. We used to try to have wheat in by 9/15 in accordance with rains, but followed farming advice by waiting later. We have tractor ready and waiting for the next rain. After next rain, we will plant, then fertilize when the wheat starts coming up.

I planted about 3/3.5 acres today with wheat, Elbon rye, and Austrian winter peas. Gonna plant about a half acre of clover tomorrow. If I lose them, it will be a first for me.

Can't argue with experience.......you could but the dummy is on you.

I have been plotting the last 10 years in Navarro county and I've learned to never plant earlier than 3rd wk in September or as of late ive been planting the opening wknd of bow season. its just too dry and you lose your plot, I've had to replant a couple of times. I've learned my lesson the hard way.

This, I'm probably not even going to plant until the 2nd week of Oct. deer in my area don't really use the plots until around thanksgiving anyway.
