    Any mechanics have suggestion

Even if your not a mechanic and have encountered this problem/issue before I would like to hear your input other than get rid of it because as of now I'm on a mission to fix it at all (within reason) cost.
So here is my issue. I have a 2005 Chevy Z71 that is going into 4 wheel drive by itself. It is sporadic and I can't duplicate it. It does seem to occur more frequently after I have drove it for 30 plus miles or so but it has always happened in the afternoon and hasn't happened while driving to work in the mornings but twice this week it has occured on my way home (30ish miles) right at my street when I'm turning at slow speeds as in turning a corner in a residential neighborhood.
    Thoughts? Suggestions?
Oh and I did replace the dash mounted selector switch and it seemed as though it was fixed for about a week. The replacement part is a Doorman from Amazon if that could possibly matter.

I'm open to any help or suggestions you may have.
    Thanks

    Electrical or vacuum operated 4x4?

I have heard vacuum lines getting old and leaking can cause issues but do not know if it would cause 4x4 to engage if there was a leak

Transfer case switch is around $20.00 if it doesnt work.

Replace the encoder motor. Around $118

Regarding the question it is all electrical on the engagement of the 4 wheel drive system.
Tomkat I have pretty much figured that I may end up just replacing those parts just for the fact that it is 10 years old and has 187k miles plus by the time I get it diagnosed which I have read that it may or may not show any DTC's I could replace those items for just about the same cost as a diagnostic bill.

If anyone else has a thought or recomendation I would likr to hear what you have to say.

        Thanks guys.

Are you keeping it in auto or 2wd?

I keep it in 2 wheel drive as far as my daily city driving to work and such and rarely ever put it in auto.

It's what everyone who owned a 05 z71 says. Apparently it was a very common problem. Also the switch.

However, when you are trouble shooting any mechanical problem. You start with the cheapest and work your way up. Been a mechanic my whole life.
You don't replace the engine, when it needs spark plugs.

I'm leaning towards going through Amazon strictly because of prices that I have researched or should I go with OEM? I don't want to have to buy them twice.
                  Thoughts?
Thanks again for the help guys.
