Red Snapper Rules and Regulation

going red snapper fishing soon, can we keep any right now? What are the rules. Heard somthing about being 9 miles out and can keep. I googled it and it didn't make sense to me. Can someone spell it out for me in simple terms. Thanks!

Went last weekend, limited out. Not sure about the size limit. Went with a guide. 4 per person in state waters. I believe it is 9 mile and closer. Anything farther is Federal waters and is 2 per person.

Nice limit! Okay, I just read the rules again and I am thinking I cannot keep but your post makes me think different. I'm confused

In federal waters (outside 9 miles) the season is closed.

State bag limit is 4, and the season is still open.

It is 9 nautical miles not standard miles. 4 per person. Fish for them on your way in. Not sure where you are headed out of but in the south it isnt had to find. If you can find 60 foot of water in State waters you should be good.

Yep. We went out of Port Mansfield, 65ft of water. Done in less than 45 minutes with 16 snapper and a King. Broke off lots of Kings, had a blast. About 7 miles from the jetties.
