I do not want to live inside the city, so I am willing to have a little longer commute. Prefer to keep it under 45 minutes if possible.
Price range would be around $1400 a month. I know that limits my selection, but I don't want to spend much more than I am already if I can avoid.
We will need at least a 2 bedroom place.
Right now it is me, my wife, my 1 year old son and we have a new baby girl due in November.

Absolutely. I think we have it narrowed down to the Kingwood/ Atascocita/ humble area now.

We moved to Kingwood (kings river) two years ago and and is been nothing but good. I work downtown and don't like the commute but based on what my coworkers that come in from 10 or 45 deal with I think 59 is better on average.
My wife and kids love it here and the schools have been really good....I've hade them in elementary, middle school and HS.
There is a house for rent down the street from me...I'll see if I can get the number today.

I can actually hear KHO's Mathews bow when he shoot it (it's only 1/2 a mile away).

I live in Kingwood in south woodland hills and we love it here. You should see the looks I get from people when I stand in the middle of the street and shoot into my back yard! Traffic is going to be relative to the time of day you are on the road. I leave for work at 4am and I have the roads to myself. Now for your $1400 price tag you'll be hard pressed to find anything out there but you can find one on occasion.

I live in Summerwood (basically Atascocita) and the area is very nice. My wife is an attorney in Kingwood. We like that area too. But you will be hard-pressed to find a house to rent for $1400 out here. If you do, you probably don't want to live there. For that price, you would need to look further out on 59. Also, that 45 min commute from Kingwood to River Oaks would be without traffic. You're going to be looking at something more like 1-1.5 hours with traffic since you have to go through downtown. That's the good thing about Summerwood, I can take 59 or 90 in the same amount of time from my house. Based on wrecks/traffic that day. And I'm 3 minutes from the beltway.
So it matters what is important to you. If commute is #1 you need to look closer to town, or on the other side of town (to avoid downtown).
If price is important, you should look further out. New Caney, Crosby, MAYBE Porter, or even as far as Cleveland. Or simply settle for an apartment.
I grew up in Spring Branch, then we bought our first house out here by the lake, and we do really like it. Never really knew much about this side of town before.
