Yep, just a plain old flat file from the hardware store. Had a vato show me the south of the border way of sharpening. Stick the pointed end into a tree or fence post, put handle end about waist high while pushing into it with your hip to arch the blade, file back and forth, flip to other side and repeat. Works like a patron.

Go over to youtube and watch some of the Japanese water stone sharpening videos, you can get good quality steel blades crazy-scary sharp. But like some of the others, I use a file or belt sander for speed, but then switch to an xtra fine grinding wheel then pressed paper wheel.

how bout just a regular bench grinder for a quick fix? I don't have the belt sander yet, it will be a while with no overtime in sight.

I want to say the green one. Whatever the manual calls for on lawnmower blade.

Have done the cheap harbor freights and my trusty Gerber

I use my worksharp Ken Onion. I can shave with it by the time I finish. 25degree angle

Learn how to use a good file. I can have one shaving hairs off your arm in 5 min. And a file doesn't need electricity or a work bench.

I don't need to shave with my machete. I just need to chop stuff usually.

I've found that my sharpening steel that I use on my kitchen knives will bring my machete back to fighting trim in a short time.

I don't think all files are the same, im not familiar with them, I have tons of files but I wouldn't know what to look for in one.
