    Question about a camper shell

I have a 2011 GMC 3500 dually with a long bed and I am looking to purchase a camper shell or bed cap (depending on who you are talking to). I placed an order for a Leer shell and they just called and said Leer told them it may not fit exactly perfect. Not quite sure why they would sell it if it wasn't a perfect fit??????? Is this normal?

Does anyone have a camper shell on a dually with a long bed and does it fit perfectly?

I would look at other options then...

Every camper shell I have ever had was made specifically for that model and year of truck. I am surprised Leer, being one of the big boys, would tell you that.
My favorite shell is A.R.E. I would go to their website and find out a lot of information there and then talk to your local dealer. They will customize them with your specific paint color, put in carpet lining, lights, racks, all kinds of options.
      Good luck!

If they ordered it for a Chevy 3500 it is not going to fit right. The beds are different. I had a Leer on a GMC 2500 6.5" bed and now have a ARE on another GMC 2500 6.5" bed. They both fit perfect.

I would call Leer myself and get the full story. Place might be trying to push an in stock Chevy one on you.

The lady at Leer said they are made for Chevy and not specifically for GMC. Very odd IMO.

My dad has a Leer camper shell made for a long bed Chevy on his long bed Toyota Tundra. If you saw it driving down the road you wouldn't know that it was not made for the truck but if you look closely you can see that it doesn't fit exactly right. However he bought it used for an extremely good deal and with that being said I would never pay new price for one that didn't fit right. I would check out some other brands, I know A.R.E. makes a very good product. Those camper shells sure are nice to have in a lot of situations!

I have a leer on my 2008 LMM long bed dually. I will post pics after a eat. It is designed for single wheel or dually.. The dually top bed rails flare out and the singles do not.

I just want something that fits and works like it should and hopefully looks good.

                    Here are a few pics.

What is like is it will fit a single wheel so I can put on another truck if I get rid of dually. It would be easier to sell as well if need be.

Do you have any issues with that top leaking the way it sits?

Yeah the dually has a curve in the bed rails and that is what makes it more complicated. I think A.R.E. makes one that fits the contour.

The top does not leak on the bed rails. The tailgate does leak a little when raining hard. If you want complete water right there is extra gasket you will need for the tail gate.

                              Question about a camper shell

I take my top on and off so I did not want it the lip over the sides of the bed rails as it will scratch up over time and I wanted the option to go to a single wheel truck in the future.
