    Thieves vent

My wife and I used to own and run a lawn and landscape business for 12+ years. After I got into the work that I do now we sold out. It was a nice relief and life got alot less stressful. She wanted to keep mowing some elderly clients herself that they had grown fond of each other. Shes been doing that for around 3 years. So to make a long story short, she went to mow Bobs house and while she was in the backyard someone helped themselves to our Echo Backpack Blower and Echo Weedeater out of the truck. Probably around the $700-$800 dollar range to replace.

I could really care less about the stuff its just that it happened to my wife. She is the most caring person that I know of. She does everything to help people out and to have dumb stuff happen to her is very upsetting. She goes to church twice a week, volunteers at church, volunteers at a free health care clinic two days a week, she mows her yards(i am not even sure if she accepts payment), and just always helping people out to the point I have to tell her she has got to slow down.

To add to this last week she was taking pictures of a softball team someone asked her to do (free of course) and somehow her phone came up missing while at the field. Either stolen or dropped from her camera bag. So we call it and call it and do what you do when you cant find the phone. She eventually calls phone provider and turns off the phone. So next day or so, someone calls her mom, friend, etc saying that someone had given them the phone but that they wanted a reward of $30. I am furious but I know the pics on phone of kids are priceless. Long story short is I arrange a meeting unsure of what I am going to do when I see the guy. We meet at my jiujitsu gym in parking lot. I take pics of his car and plate, grab one of his business cards, throw the money at him and tell him off. I am 99 percent sure he was recording me too. I wasnt sure what info if any he had taken from phone like my in-laws address, home, etc... so I showed restraint. Paying $30 for something that is mine.

Anyway the point is my wife is a great person and its upsetting when bad stuff happens to her.

You showed restraint by not providing a $30 jujitsu lesson. Thieves suck.

Sorry to hear that! Sometimes were dealt difficult situations. We had the same thing happen in Lubbock with our lawn company a couple of weeks ago with someone taking our equipment while we were in the backyard.

I hope things turn around for her!

I hate stories like this. I hate a thief. Low life scum. And also hate people who "ask" for a reward. Seriously?? You didn't win the lotto buddy. Next time do the owner a favor and don't jack their stuff. What's your alternative, sell the property you stole to some other hoodlum? Oh that's right, you already tried that and couldn't get jack for a hot phone.

Bravo to you sir, you are a much better man than I. Restraint would not have been in my vocabulary that day. I don't care if the guy had a full production crew with him.

I hate hearing stuff like this, it seems like it happens more and more these days and always to the people who least deserve it. I'm sorry that it happened to ya'll.

A few years ago my daughters phone was stolen at her place of business. It was brand new and she had spent he own money on it. I kept trying to find it using the phone locator app. No success. Then about midnight I checked and the phone was on. The map showed me it was at a trailer park and identified where it was. The next morning I called the police and told them where it was and filled out a police report. Of course they did nothing. Sunday after church I drove by the trailer just to see where it was. To my wifes horror, I jumped out of the truck and went to the door.

A girl came to the door and I informed her I knew they had stolen my phone, I had already reported them to the police, and that they were all going to jail. I told her that if I got the phone back within the next 12 hours, I would drop the charges. The girl said she didn't have it, but knew where it was. Sure enough that afternoon, they texted me another address in another trailer park. I strapped on my 357 and went over there. A girl opened the door and tossed my daughters phone to me.

My wife said I was crazy, but I wasn't going to let it go that time. I did cancel the stolen phone report and told the deputy what I had done.

              $30 reward
              Sounds like a junkie

              Good job showing restraint.

I would have asked to see the phone (before handing him the money) to verify that it was indeed mine. When I verified that it was, I would have just walked off without paying a dime for something that's already mine. But, that's just me.

I would have brought a cop with me to "pay" for the stolen property.

Glad you got the phone back, sorry about the lawn equipment. Thieves never seem to miss an opportunity these days. Sad thing, ain't nothin they steal worth dying over but they don't seem to understand that.

I do lawns to pay hunting and fishing expenses and so far, knock on wood, I've not had any of my equipment stolen out of truck or trailer. I've been doing this for 10+ years so I figure it's about time, unfortunately.

I have a length of chain and a lock in the truck, run through a loop in the bed, but I seldom lock the stuff down. One day I'll regret not doing it I suppose.

The world is full of thieving, lazy folks who will reap a "reward" someday, either from an armed property owner on earth, or in the hereafter.
