    Intex pools

So I bought an Intex pool to put in the back yard for the kids. Got a 20'x52" from Academy. So how do yall maintain it without breaking the bank? What chemicals do you use? I want to eventually go to a salt water system, can't do that right now, so I need to stay with chlorine for now.

We trashed ours after a year.

Do your research on salt water. I deal with a lot of pool & spa guys. They tell me they would NEVER do salt, but they love to sell them b/c the corrosion from salt breaks expensive equipment like pumps.

Lol, yep. You can product, borate, that makes it feel like soft water. But is good for your pool That is salts only pro. Their are a lot of cons. I am in pool business. Since 81'. Salt is not your friend

This is our first year with an Intex pool and it has been simple. I add about two bags of Shock to it a week (especially after a rain). Keep chlorine tabs in the floater and clean the leaves and such out of it a couple of times a week. The water has stayed clear as a bell all summer.

We buy all our chemicals at Wal-Mart. We order our "B" filters from Walmart online. You can get 6 of them for $32 which is a lot cheaper than buying in the store. The filters get dirty quickly but I will blow it off real good with a water hose about twice before replacing.

X2. My brother n law tried the saltwater route. Big mistake, those pools/pumps/frames are not made for it.

Check out troublefreepool.com. I'd use bleach over chlorine tabs/powder shock due to the stabilizer in the powder/tabs unless you can drain and refill cheap. Keep the free chlorine residual up, the pH in range, and the stabilizer (cyrunic acid) in range and you should have no problems. If the stabilizer gets too high, no amount of chlorine will help and you'll have to drain and refill (at least partially) or you will have alge issues. That is the #1 problem most people have.
