    Stocking Fish?

All of the stock tanks on our lease went dry last summer. Thanks to all the rain the last few months all are totally full again, but now we have nothing to fish for this Spring between Turkey & Hog hunts. I have access to some good quality tanks to take fish from and transplant, but does anyone know of a place I can buy some fish in or south of San Antonio? Might be a lot easier and faster this way.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'd wait. They say '07 going to be hotter than last year.

Check out www.pondboss.com to possibly find a resource down that way.

I used Cotulla Hatchery with good success. We stocked 4"-6" bass and catfish with good survival rates. The price was reasonable for two ponds.

I use Dunns fish farm with they come to my local feed store. Never had any problems with their fish.

You can contact the Texas Aquaculture Association at (512) 474-4600, they will have the names and number of private fish farms in that area.

You should really think about this in the long term before going through with it. 2007 is "supposed" to be hotter than last year so unless you dont mind wasting the money or you can somehow supply water to your tanks I wouldn't stock it just quite yet.

how big is the tank or tanks? we have one that is about an acre, it's in the shape of a horseshoe, and the sides are about 8ft deep and the curve in the back is about 12ft deep, we dumped about 25 to 30 old christmas trees in one side to give the fish some habitat and then stocked with 300 perch, 300 catfish fingerlings, and about 100 Largemouth bass fingerlings. All has progressed well, the catfish are starting to reach lengths on average of 24" and bass are averaging around 1.5 to 2lbs...perch are still abundant....or at least when the feeder goes off....lol..i know when we got the pond stocked though, it was from someone around here...i'm from Port Lavaca, i don't know who it was but if you're interested, shoot me an email, and i'll have my old man find out who it was.....and let you know more info about it....

Cull is trying to sell about 250 pounds of catfish on Sunday. They are already 2-5 lbs. They will be in Belton on Sunday to pick up.

I saw Culls post and thats what started me thinking, but I am thinking its too early since its still January and the weather could do anything. I know there is always a chance the tanks will dry up again, but if I don't stock we will not be fishing water or not. The three tanks we would stock are all about half to three quarters of an acre each and vary from 12 feet to 20 feet deep. Before the drought they all held Bass and Perch in fantastic numbers. Kids were catching fish left and right on live worms. Not trying to produce trophy fish, just something to pass the time during the mid-day hours. I have access to a golf course that is loaded with bass and perch and was just going to poor boy it with a cast net and a couple of lease buddies and coolers for transport. Are store bought fish hardier? This is all new to me.
