    Port A fishing help

Wife and I made last minute decision to go to the coast for a couple of days. We are staying in North Padre.

I want to get some bay or off shore fishing in but I don't want to spend a lot. I'm looking just for myself as my wife would rather lounge on the shore.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you don't mind doing it yourself. Check out the jetty's, Charlies pasture, and/or rent a kayak. Lots of good spots to yak fish (lighthouse lakes and/or along 361 between Port A and Aransas Pass...lots of flats with some nice potholes that attract the reds and specs.

      Good luck.

The winds are gonna be down all week. With that in mind water conditions should be great so I would hit the Port A jetties. Take the jetty boat to the N jetty. I believe its under $10. Im sure the trout and spanish mackerel action is gonna be insane. For simplicity I would throw lures. Silver spoons, mirror lures etc. If the mackerel are thick use a thin single strand wire to prevent cut offs. Im sure others will shim in with more info but that should get you started on some good action.

The offshore trips on the party boats out of port A are super cheap. Look at Dolphin Dock, Fishermans Warf or Deep Sea Headquarters.

Jetties can be fire for bull reds right now. Try to catch the outgoing tide fish the channel side. It's not uncommon to see the breaking the surface feeding in the moving currents. Use a float with a long leader. I personally fish a lemon rig out the live shrimp wi work good. Good luck

You might also try the Fish Pass jetties in Mustang Island State Park. Wife can hang out on the beach right next to the jetties. When I've caught fish there, I've been throwing live shrimp either free-lined or under a popping cork down towards the end of the jetty casting into the water between the jetties.

I don't have any saltwater tackle to take, so I think my options are going with someone that can supply bait and tackle...thanks for all the advice and info--don't stop

like the prices on the party boats but prefer something less than a 40 person option--suggestions on that???

Not really, Sounds like the jetties or surf would be your best option.
