Continued Solid Summer Fishing In Port O'Connor!!

Due to two lay offs in the oil field I was lucky enough to have my guiding career to fall back on. I hit the ground (water) running and have been running fishing trips 3-6 days a week in Port O'Connor.

The trout bite has been solid for about 9-10 weeks now with limits every trip except two trips and that was not due to the bite or trout presence lol!!

We have been catching trout over sand and grass while wade fishing with croaker as well as some reds and drum mixed in with an occasional flatty.

Hopefully the bite is as strong when I go the to Chandeleur Islands in three weeks for a leisure trip.

Here are some pics from some of the trips this summer in Port O'Connor.

Hosted several groups of TBHers and it's always a blast having y'all on the boat!!

Yep. Been hard to go wrong down there as of late. The latest we stayed out for a limit was 930 a few weeks ago

Been one of the best summers of fishing on many years. Everytime I have fished in POC we have caught limits of trout stand several reds mixed in. Should be a great fall and winter also.

Anyone think 5 trout limit pay off already?

Definitely has paid off without a doubt I've already caught bigger average size fish and more fish than any summer before.

I do feel the reds have had more pressure now with the five trout limit. Definitely still catching reds but they are just a little harder to pattern.

I know a lot of folks question TPWD. I sat in on some good discussions back when they cut out commercial fishing for redfish. Sat in on 2 occasions during TPWD open forums. One with a room full of guides and sport fishermen. One with a room full of commercial fishermen. I was neutral at both. But that was a good decision for the sport. As was the 5 trout limit. "Save Some for Seed".

Yes sir its helped the trout numbers and quality of fish a lot. In a few years its going to be amazing. I never questioned the trout limit change. Personally I felt keeping 10 trout was a lot.

Now as for the flounder limits and regs. I and many others thought that was a dumb move. We were all wrong. The flounder numbers and quality of fish has shot threw the roof. I see flounder pics and catches almost everyday now. My flounder guide buddies say its unreal now.

                          Good job TPW.

It seems like the fish are a wee bit bigger this year, my average length has been around 21-22. It is on!!!

I agree with all the above! I have not caught this many flounder on rod and reel ever!! The quality of size of Trout has increased drastically in my opinion as well!
