Has anybody here ever had a PTO driven generator? I'm building and am debating getting a backup power generator for my house. We are biulding about 7 miles outside of town, and maybe 10 miles from the Gulf Coast so in the event of a hurricane we'll be without power for a good while.
I can go with the herd and get a Guardian or some other brand of fixed propane/natural gas generator with an automatic power transfer switch, which isn't a bad thing. I've also looked into a PTO driven generator and a manual power transfer switch.
The fixed generator is just what it says...fixed to the house. The PTO has other uses than just the house, such as running a welding rig or other high watt service. It can be 3 point or trailer mounted to my tractor. I'm thinking that diesel for the tractor will be less costly than propane too.
If anyone has any experience with PTO driven generators, please school me on their pros & cons.
