I think a lot of times cameras get stolen by tresspassers wanting to "hide their tracks" or identity. In these scenarios the PW protection won't matter
How do laptops and tablets retain their passwords after long periods of dead batteries?
Depending on expense, might be worth it.
CMOS. The difference between the 2 would be wanting a computer to keep that info vs someone wanting to go through the trouble to get rid of it. You aren't going to stop someone from defaulting things with the power of Google.

Well poo. I guess I'll keep developing a micro gps tracking device.
I have Reconyx, Stealth and Spartan Cams. All have the pw feature.
I don't think the pw is lost if the batteries go dead. If you registered your camera, Reconyx has some sort of procedure in place if you have a camera stolen and the thief contacts them for pw reset.
This might cause them to steal the whole camera instead of just the card or deleting pictures. I was lucky enough that when trespassers got caught on my camera, they just stole the $8 SD card and lift the $150 camera. Still crappy, but I'm somewhat grateful. I have very mixed feelings about this situation lol.
My browning spec ops has a password to change settings and view photos on the screen but you can still take the card out and erase files without a password
Make them password protected, inoperable to a thief... password required every time a card is replaced before it will function... or at every power up... or at every wireless picture batch upload (Which I'm sure is coming fast to replace physical cards)...
I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of it, but why hasn't it been implemented?? Cost? I would pay more to discourage theft. I think it would all but eliminate theft because they would be useless to anyone else...
Thoughts?
And every thing that has a password like this can be bypassed.
ipad, ipod, phones, computers, AC controllers, car and truck doors, coke machines and even trail cams.
There is always a master password hard coded into the hardware.
The best example is cars and trucks. When you buy one the has the keypad on the door. You get a card with the code on it. Then you can put your own code. However, there is still a hard coded password other then yours.
The thing about folks out stealing feeders, stands, trailcams etc is they are not always the cream of the crop intelligence wise. What one of us might take for granted in terms of searching out a pw override might not be so obvious for your typical deer lease thief.
