    GPS Advice?

I'm looking to purchase a GPS for hunting up in the mountains in other states. I plan on putting the onXmaps chip, so it has to be compatible for SD chips. I don't want to break the bank but I don't want to skimp out on features that are necessary to have. When I get some time I will put my hand on a few and check out the features for my self.

Until then, What GPS units do you have/Which ones would you recommend?

Why not just use your cell phone with OnX Maps loaded on it? It works great and you don't need a cell signal to use the map.

I though about this but I was worried about signal. That might have solved my problem.

I have the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx. A very basic unit, however it does everything I need for my mountain hunts. Definitely does not break the bank.

The only problem I have with relying on a cell phone for real back country navigation is the battery life. I only get a few hours of use out of my iPhone before it goes dead. You could buy back up chargers, but they don't really solve the problem. A GPS can run on AA batteries for 1-2 days and extra batteries are really easy to carry and buy in any small town.
Also my iPhone isnt waterproof, dust proof, or rugged in any way.
I keep my iPhone off and ready to use in case I lose my GPS, but my Garmin is my main navigational tool.

I bought a refurbished Garmin 62s from gpscity.com and its in like new condition. You can find some really good deals through them, and the refurb inventory changes frequently so you might check it out.

Can you post a link? I don't see any 650T anywhere near that price on their website.

Not Exactly $150 off... more like $180 off!!! And I just got a $20 off any purchase over $150 in Cabela's Bucks. So I got it for $200 off regular price and free shipping!!!

I decided to go ahead and get this model and try it out.

I have one and it's been great so far. Haven't used it much only got it in July but the topo detail is good and marking waypoints and everything is really nice and easy to use
