Advantages of a Ground/Pop Up Blind Elevated Platform

Hey fellas I've been reading through a bunch of these elevated platform builds for ground or pop up blinds and I've never really found anything that discuss the pros and cons of going this route.

I see a lot of the cons most people associate with this setup is the wind ripping it off the platform but it seems most people have figured out a way to keep that from happening..

What are some of the pros associated with this setup?

I've just moved a feeder on my farm and I think it might be a perfect little spot to do this.

-Your'e off the ground. Reduces bugs and snakes entering. Also keeps the cows, if any, from chewing on/pancaking your blind.

-No kicking up dust inside the blind. No wet ground/mud in the blind on rainy days.

-Gives you a different vantage point. I always liked being able to see over the small scrub brush where I hunt.

-If you have a feeder pen being elevated gives you the ability to shoot over fence panels.

As far as keeping the blind from being ripped from the platform. We use those big fender type washers spaced pretty close together. Never had one ripped off a platform.

Elevated helps take your scent over the top of the deer once they are in close.

Takes you out of the deer's normal sight plane, doesn't mean they can't see you though.

That's kind of what I was figuring. Is there any advantage related to the deer? IE your above their line of sight or less chances of deer catching your wind since you are elevated?

I just built my first ground blind platform. It's only 24" tall but you will be surprised how much more you can see just getting a few feet off the ground. If you screw it down at the corners and use the tie-outs on all 4 sides it is very sturdy in the wind. I am currently deciding how I want to secure the flaps around the bottom to make it even less likely that critters will take up residence inside. The nice flat/smooth floor the platform provides is another plus. The only downside I can think of - especially on a higher platform - would be it is more visible. However, with mine at only 24" it will still be pretty easy to brush it in.

Yes, to certain extent. A deer will still look up and see you if they know where the stand is at. Also, like southpaw says, elevates your scent to go over them when in close.

This would work out well as the spot I want to put it is already elevated above the feeder so any extra elevation would carry it even higher.

im thinking of going this route for one of my stands...just doing like an 8x8 platform, and securing my pop up on top. brushing it in, and going that route

I never saw the need until I built one. The benefits are multiple

                      1) you get away from most critters and cattle

                      2) you never have to worry about being flooded out of your stand

                      3) if you're in scrub country, you can see over the little stuff

                      4) being elevated can lead to better blood trails. This is because you have an exit hole lower in the chest cavity, thus the blood will spill out easier

                      5) it keeps you from feeling like the deer are much larger than you, which happened to me a lot on the ground

                      6) you can turn that platform into a permanent stand if you ever want to by simply building four walls and a roof

You can also muffle your sound better by putting carpet down with no need to worry about critters under the carpet or it getting wet and moldy.
Just built this cattle panel blind on a 5' platform. The platform gets us the distance we want to be from the feeder, still in a thick area, and no problem shooting over the brush.

Not a pop-up, but I hope it works. Still gotta brush up the legs.

You could turn the flap inside or outsid and then get a 1x2 or 1x4 scrap lumber and screw it down to your platform without screwing through the flap. Easily removed so you can take the popup home in the offseason.
