    Home ac problems

So my unit is 7 years old.. Last year it stopped working and it was the condensation line clogged up.. Well this year I decided to have a company do a tune up on it.. About 2-3 weeks after that everything froze up and the same company came out and said it was low on freon and they added some (that was Wednesday) well now it's froze up again.. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a freon leak. Low freon or clogged filter can cause it to freeze up. Other things could also, but I think these are the most common.

Can you add dye to a home system to find the leak like you do on a car?

I think it freezes up because the fan doesn't run in the air handler.. But if I put it on EM heat it runs..

pretty much lost the Freon or the air flow across the coils is really restricted.

Does the fan work with you just turn the fan on instead of using the automatic setting.

              Turn off compressor
Turn on the fan, if the fan blows and the filter is clean, add freon. If that don't help, clean the A or H coil.

Sounds like the service people might have jipped you.

Huh. A relay made it freeze up. Sounds like there was a low charge in the system. What relay did they tell you was bad?

Don't remember, the relay cause the fan to not run which would not move any air which caused it to freeze up

Bad fan relay. Yep it will cause that. Glad you got it fixed.

                          While on the topic...

What temp air should be blowing at the vents on central AC?

Mid to high 50s. I've seen a couple two stage systems get down in the high 40s but it took a lot tweaking.

Best way to determine is about 16-20 degrees lower than the return temp
