Ohio hunter falls 22ft while hanging tree stand

Check your harness, check your equipment straps before the season starts! This feller had someone watching over him that day.

Click here for the Youtube video of the feller falling out of the tree.

Great reminder. With all the excitement going on and "I've done t his hundreds of times", people can get complacent. Take the time

I Never rely on my safety harness-never
Hunted without one for years-kinda like when I was 8 yrs old climbing trees.
You just have to be skilled in climbing trees. Good to harness in when in stand. But that's only a backup. Glad he didn't die

            Monkeys fall from trees.

Thats a pretty silly excuse not to use a climbing harness..
if you dont like wearing one fine..but dont justify it by saying your more skille so it will never happen to you...

although the irony in your screenname and your comments is hilarious.

It's funny how marketing a product has made minds of mush.
Man has been climbing trees for years. It is a skill

It may be a skill to climb trees. But no matter the type of skill, everybody makes mistakes sooner or later, at some point in life.

This thread was intended for the well being of those who climb anything. I had a coworker who one morning went to climb a ladder stand. And after laying on the ground for over 56 hours at the base of the tree, he finally got help. But it wasn't enough to hook up his arms and legs again. Someone had tampered with his stand during the week before he got there. Same can happen with limbs, or other equipment from sitting uninspected over a year, year after year that may go unnoticed.

Just check your straps on your stand. Links if it has a chain. Cracks if it's a welded stand. Rivets and bolts if it has those too. ladder sticks, ladder stands, climbers, and hang-ons. Even screw in tree steps like the feller in the video was using. Anything can fail. But it will help keep it from happening, and lessen the chance of a fall, if you inspect your equipment. That includes harnesses. I can say from experience, that a harness has saved me from a fall. If you climb enough, sooner or later, it will happen.

And do it for the sake and love of your family and friends, not just your self.

I couldn't watch it, tree stands scare me. If I had to hunt out of one, I'd take up stamp collecting for a hobby. I've said more prayers for guys who've been hurt falling. Be careful.
