pass thru on a pig at 82 yards i feel good at 50 yards on a deer. longest kill shot on a deer was around 46 yards

Well, my answer is not how far you can shoot, but How close can you get!!!

Lean your deer target up against your wifes car.
The distance you are willing to shoot at that traget is the distance you should be willing to shoot at a deer

I wouldn't even try to hand poke the arrow in it.

that is totally a personal matter,,,
however i never recommend beyond 40 yards, and i do recommend stopping your shots at the point you can no longer hold all of your arrows inside a 4" circle consistently , or 40 yards which ever is closer,, i can generally hold mine inside a 4" at 60,, but i still limit my shots to 40,,, archery IS a close range sport,,, it should never be about how far you can fling an arrow and sometimes get lucky,, its about how close you can get, and still make the shot

I read as a kid whatever distance you can put 5 arrows inside a 6" pie plate on a target. Same idea. I do "western hunting" and my farthest was 40 yards, with a range finder. And the deer laying down bedded.
