    Mule Deer?

How do you score them vs whitetail? Do they taste as good as whitetail? Lords knows there is no way they taste as good as Axis.

Depends where you shoot them. The alpine one I shot tasted way better than the desert deer I've killed.

Score the same. Pope & Young. The ones I've taken in Colorado have been eating alfalfa so they taste great, almost as good as axis . The antelope on our place taste as good if not better than axis.

They don't score the same in regard to where the circumferences are taken and the location of the G3 in comparison to the G2

My Montana muley was inedible! It was field dressed immediately and temps were in the teens. My dogs wouldn't even eat it.

They do not score the same. Spread credit is different amongst other things.

Taste can vary greatly. Some are great. Some I wouldn't feed to my dog lol

Like what would be a comparison for a 160-170 class whitetail?

I would think 180-200 would be your comparison to whitetail. 150 mule deer is my best.

                        How so?

It looks like spread credit is exactly the same as a whitetail according to BC. Where circumference is measured is the only difference I could find.

If you walk up to them and they smell strong on the ground. They are going to have the same smell in the frying pan.

We kill a bunch of them off of alfalfa fields in sw Colorado. Those eat wonderful.

Scoring is very similar to whitetails, with the main difference in the location of the G3 and the circumference measurements. The inside spread credit is exactly the same as for whitetails. For a MD, the mainbeam is the same, the G1 is the same (if present), the G2 is the same, and the G4 is the same. The G3 is which ever 'fork' you don't call the G2 (it is usually the front tine of the back fork). Start of the measurement isn't at the beam though, it is off the G2. H1 circumference measurement is the same, H2 si the same, H3 is the smallest location along the G2 below the fork, and the H4 is the smallest location along the beam between the G2 and the front fork.

Killed one that lived in a sage flat and it tasted like sage.
Killed one out of alfalfa and it was great.
