    Handheld GPS-need suggestions

There are tons of options out there and I need direction. Looking for a handheld that I can carry elk hunting and also use on my new deer lease to help me learn my way around. Is there a function where the info from the field can be downloaded on my computer and overlayed on a map? Would like to try not to break the bank on cost. Let me know what you think.

Garmin 64s. Will do everything you want and much, much more. Get Birdseye Imagery to allow you to see true satellite image of your hunting location.

I have the Garmin 62S. I don't know the difference between it and the 64S, but it will allow you to overlay where you've been on a map, either the propriety software it comes with or GoogleEarth. It also allows you to create a path on a map and then download the path to the unit for following in the field. There is a free map of Texas you can get somewhere, maybe off the Garmin website.

I mainly use mine for marking my truck before heading into the national forests for off-trail hunting/hiking. Sure makes it easy to not get lost and to keep track of how far I have to hike to get back

I use the Garmin Rino 655T. If you have friends that you hunt with and they have one as well, the unit has a radio in it and you can keep in contact with one another. Just a thought in case that is something you want to think about.

Honestly you can do everything with a phone and good GPS map app like OnX maps. You can cache the area on your phone and don't need cell coverage to have a great map. Just carry a small phone charger with you and you are good to go. Much cheaper too since you already own the phone! Works great!

I also got tired of the small screens on handheld GPS units. I will never go back to a GPS unit.

What phone do you use? I've tried using my Galaxy S3 and now Kyocera DuraForce and in no way would trust them to accurately show where I am. It seems they are always lagging way behind or not fixing a location at all.

I use a Galaxy S4...scary accurate. Accurate to within a few feet.

I have a Garmin Oregon 600. Seems to work very well and very accurate. I like that I can see the screen in bright sunlight.

If I were going to get one, I would go with a Delorme inReach. Great reviews, and it has two way communication capabilities. Send and receive text, tracking ect.

                    I use my iPhone.
