I had been wanting a Savage 99 since I was a kid hunting with my uncle. A guy on my lease came across one in 308 and traded me a lady Smith 38. I got the better end of the deal.
I still haven't shot it. Safe queen. I just take it out and look at it.

I am waiting to inherit this jewel in .358 Win from my grandfather who's owned it since new. He's probably in his final months of dementia and just broke his hip the other day.

I have one in 300 savage, made 1923. A safe queen. The old lever guns have a special romance about them.

I have a 99 in 300 savage. 1 inch groups at 300 yards are easy. It was my grandpas rifle and no amount of money would buy it from me. I shoot a couple of pigs with it every year just for memory sake. Great rifle.

That's a sweet 99M with the Monte Carlo stock. I've owned 2 Savage 99s. My first was the very first rifle I ever owned...a model 99F featherweight in .243 with the round counter and gold trigger. Sold it to pay rent when I was broke and down and out after my divorce in 1987. [emoji53]
The other was my dad's rifle and I get emotional every time I think about it because I never should have sold it. It was an older model 99E in .308 that he bought when he got back from Korea and out of the Army. It was not exactly a safe queen and as he tells it a cowboy carried it many a mile on horseback in a saddle scabbard. It was scratched all to hell but that's all he could afford at the time...no scope or anything of course.
He saved up money over the years and eventually replaced the stock with a piece of custom stained walnut. It was truly a one of a kind unique look rifle that actually kinda resembled tiger stripes. A sweet shooter that looked as good as it performed. I've never seen anything like it before or since. Wish I would have kept the thing. [emoji53]
These 99s are fast becoming collector guns now.

A pic that I still have of the .308 walnut stock. Pic doesn't do it justice.

Mine was made in 1923 also. Will use it and my 1964 Mod 88 Winchester to take something this year. Used the Mod 88 last year but didn't get a shot while using it.

My pops has two of the 99E's in 300 savage. Just this past week my uncle was talking about a lever action .243 he had, sure enough it was a 99C with a drop out clip on it. Very cool old guns.
