I know axis meat is highly prized but for those prices you could do a red deer hind or elk cow. They are superb table fair and much more meat. I have seen those hunts for $500-700. That not too much more than most axis doe hunts I see.

And every once in a while you can stumble across hinds for $350. Like you say the meat is excellent!

Bud when I get back home I'll be in. I never pass up a good meat hunt. I even use a rifle. It's nice to get away from the trophy aspect and just hunt like when I was a kid. I love it!
