    CWD & Ranch Shopping

We might be going to look at a ranch in Medina Co.

Here's my question- with there being a recent positive CWD case in that county, would that be a deciding factor in whether or not you purchased a ranch there? Looks to be within 15 miles of ranch with infected buck. Ranch in question is low fence.

The deciding factor would be what the results of the TPWD investigation are. But you probably dont have that long to wait.

No, it wouldn't affect your decision or no, you wouldn't even consider the ranch?

The fact you're asking the question you are asking should be a strong indicator that you haven't educated yourself on CWD, the incident itself or done the necessary research to contemplate purchasing any property.

No effect on the decision. The chances are miniscule, made even smaller by the wet weather we have experienced this year.

To answer your question, I would not consider buying a ranch that close to the only locale that CWD has been found in WT deer in the state of Texas. But that's me.

Having said that, there's no telling where it will pop up next. And it will.

Or maybe I thought it would be an interesting deer related question to ask the green screen. I know deer threads are rare around here but there are still a few people who appreciate them.

Btw- being a deer farmer, I'm a member of the Texas Deer Assoc & am up to speed on everything CWD related but thanks for the assumption :-)

That came off as pretentious and I didn't intend for it to be.
You need to research cwd more ..you'll have a better understanding and it won't be full of opinion and bias that you'll inevitably recieve on tbh.

Then now I'm totally confused at why you would ask that question on tbh if you are privy to the information tda has provided?
Sorry but that makes no sense unless it wasn't really a question you wanted answered but rather you were taking a poll of who would answer with rhetoric and uninformed opinion ?

Ignore systemnt. Your question was warranted.

I told my wife to ask the green screen this question because we are really going to look at this ranch. It is a question about risk. Makes perfect sense if you are about to invest a million bucks in something that you might ask such a question. I know my opinions on CWD, but none of us know what TPWD is going to do there. If and when you try to sell this property in the future will a potential buyer say looks great, but oh its in the TPWD CWD zone? This is not a question about will all the deer die, I'm convinced the deer will do fine, its the people I'm worried about.

Take this with a grain of salt, but if the current situation brought about an angle that would allow me to get a piece of dirt for much less than if the whole cwd deal never came about?? Yes, I would jump all over it & let the chips fall...yeah, I guess it's a gamble but you didn't pay anything for my $0.02

Don't think I would pay market for anything affected close by for cwd right now...sorry if my reply is capt obvious. I assume that is why you are considering.

I personally wouldn't buy the ranch. Right now we don't know the extent, only that it was found in Medina county. I could forsee a day when the presence or absence of cwd in a county could affect land values.
