I posted this on my FB page over a month ago but figured I would share with my friends here on the GS. Good times in East Texas with good friends.
We decided to hit the back roads and visit a good friend of mine in search of past history out in the thick Piney Woods of Deep East Texas. It's always good spending the day under the open sky with Steve Barclay...a legend himself along the banks of the Mighty Trinity River. We hit a creek and the artifacts were aplenty as we told stories of past hunts, wild adventures, family and of course our passion for past history. We were plum whooped after about 5 hours of sifting in the cool creek water and called it a day. On the way home we stopped in the small town of Trinity, TX (stomping grounds of gunslinger John Wesley Hardin) . As we drove through the town, it brought me back to small town America where life seems to of slowed down and the old buildings and houses showed their age from a simple way of life. We pulled over at a small Cafe' to get a bite to eat before legging it the rest of the way home. Some of the best down home cooking I have had at a place in a very long time. When we got on the road, it didn't take Colton long to feel the effects of some good living and a full belly. These quality times with him will start to dwindle as time goes on but I appreciate them more than he will ever know. I owe ya one son and thank you for hanging out with your Ol Man. Till next time.
