Camper Shell on pickup??? Yay or Nay?

I'm thinking about getting a camper shell for the bed of my 2015 Tundra crewmax... For those of you that have them, what would you consider to be your pros & cons? Also, what brand and style do you have/recommend?

I can tell you that I want one. Just for the simple fact to keep my gear dry and my lab warm.

I have a Leer and love it just ordered the rack today to carry out kayaks

The windows have the metal screens

Had a tundra crew before this truck and was planning on putting a shell on it just never got around to it

I have a CREWMAX now, but after having one many years ago they are just not convenient enough.

I wouldn't have a truck without one. They protect your gear, have a place to sleep if need be and have plenty of room if you need to move things or if you have large items, all you have to do is remove 4 clamps and get a friend to help you move the topper off.

I took mine off because it was too inconvenient when hauling bulky items and my ATV wouldn't fit. I kept it and will put it on when needed.

I have an ARE right now on my truck. I like it a lot and don't have to worry about things in the bed of the truck. One thing I would suggest if you get one make sure you have a bed slide installed as well. I have a bed slide as well and it works great with the camper. The bed slide allows you to reach everything from the ground because the bed slide slides out. It would be a pain in my opinion to have a camper and have to crawl in it to get things out. There are also lots of options with campers as well. Mine I have right now has tool box on ones side that you open from the side and it is solid for small items.

I have one that I take on and off as needed.

I think you need sliding windows on the sides. Wire screens are a good idea. Locking is a must. Internal lights help, but you can add one with a battery for cheap.

The only drawback to mine is that my tailgate has a cap and I have to remove it every time I put the camper shell on . I have just about destroyed it putting it on and taking it off several times a year.

It has always come in handy for me, traveling fishing and hunting.

I've been on the lookout for one in the classifieds and Craigslist. Hopefully I'll find one some one doesn't like, or the wife is making them get rid of it the free up space.

Me too. I am looking to upgrade. I really have to have sliding side windows. My current one does not have them and it gets really hot back there. Periodically I have to make my dogs ride back there. When I find a new one I will sell my old one.

Currently I don't have one but my next truck will for sure! As well as a Decked bed storage system. I like the fact that it makes for a secure and dry storage.

A few of my really good friends have an ARE camper with a topper lift and the decked storage. They camp a lot and ARE makes a kit to turn it into a tent, it's pretty awesome. I'll post a pick of Brandon Paluniuks rig that is set up like this.
