Any of you share your lease with quail hunters?

Just curious what your experience has been. We haven't gotten to that point yet, but our landowner stated prior to last season that he may book quail hunts at his discretion on our pasture. With the bumper crop of quail this year, we're a little concerned it might actually happen. Thanks!

I would think if he's going to do it, this would be the year to do it! I've never seen quail like I have this year. Hopefully he'll be courteous enough to not mess up your deer hunting. Good luck either way!

Is there something written in lease agreement that says he can lease out quail hunting separate from deer? That is basically leasing land that is already leased for the same purpose. Not right in my opinion.

Even if landowner can lease out quail separately, I would make sure that is was after deer season closed.

Our old lease did that. Our lease manager was a big quail hunter also so that didn't help. They would just ride around on there mules all day following their dogs. It would stir up all the deer in the area and potentially move deer out of certain areas for days. I didn't care what they did after the end of the season, but during deer season it was pretty annoying.

Would be tough with the season being
Oct. 25, 2014 - Feb. 22, 2015. I would not like it. Might try leasing all hunting rights.

I agree....the seasons almost run concurrently. What makes matters worse is our place has been bow only for 30 years, so there's no telling what kind of effect gunfire will have on the deer during season.

Pretty sure since he owns the land, and he told them before they leased it...that he's gonna do it when he wants to. Don't know how your gonna "make" him wait till deer season is over. But I agree that it sure would be courteous of him to do that!

Don't think I would want to be on a lease that allowed someone else to come in and quail hunt on it. We do all we can to stay out of the deer woods unless we are hunting or working on our setups.

I would ask the Landowner how much it will take for him not to lease it out during deer season, and then see if your group can meet the price. I have been on quail leases before the ones I was on we could not hunt quail until after the general season was over.

I wouldn't hunt a lease that allowed quail hunters on it even after deer season

Worked on alot of leases that were quail and deer hunted and for the most part all got along. Main thing is communication. The quail guys better know before going out who's deer hunting and where!

Some places it is pretty common to lease out the quail after deer season is over. You don't want to be running dogs in Texas until December anyway.

I used to quail hunt (as a guest) on a place that had both hunters going concurrently. The "quail area" was deep sand open grass land and the deer area was typical South Texas red clay brush country. The deer and quail hunters mostly stayed on their respective sides even though there was no rule about who could hunt where.

The biggest deer those hunters shot out there in about 20 years of hunting was one we moved with the dogs one day. We saw it towards time to pick up the dogs so we grabbed em and drove over to the deer hunters camp. We told them where it was and that it was the biggest we had ever seen out there. They looked skeptical, but one guy drove over there to check it out. Sure enough, that deer was bedded down right where we saw it. He drove up, stuck the gun out the window and shot it. I can't remember the exact score but it was close to 170.

Most of the time, quail and deer hunting don't mix at all though.

I used to have a deer lease that some guys quail hunted on, never had any trouble. It was a huge place though, 15000+ acres.
