    New/Used Vehicle

I'm not starting a chevy vs. ford vs. dodge thread, but do need some advice pertaining to new and used trucks. I'm helping my Dad get a truck since he doesn't own a computer, have email, or have any idea what he's doing. My truck is 12 years old and I don't plan on shopping for another for a while, so I'm lacking knowledge as to what all is out there and what some current prices are. He is like me and his truck is 16 years old and I helped him find that truck when he bought it, so he's even more clueless than I.

Right now I'm trying to at least get a range of years, miles, prices, etc... on paper, so he can have an idea what he is looking at. He's not opposed to new, but I have a feeling a new truck will be over his budget(which isn't set in stone since we don't even know what's out there). I would assume today's half tons can tow just about anything he tows such as small tractor, small cattle trailer, and boat. He'd prefer fairly low miles since he will keep this truck for 10-20 years just like every other truck he's owned.

    Some Requirements:
    Crew Cab
    4 wheel drive
    leather or vinyl
    low miles
Prefer GM, however will not rule out Toyota or Ford

Any suggestions what to start looking for and if you have first hand experience purchasing recently I'd appreciate it if you could share what you bought and cost.

Do you own one? If so what year and could you share fuel economy?

The 2014 and later Chevys have direct injection fuel systems. This helps with mileage and power. I'm hearing a lot of guys getting $10k of sticker on new trucks. Used you won't get much off asking.

Good info to have. What little online research I've done I've been shocked at the prices of used trucks.

I like the car guru's website!

Unbiased car reviews and over a million opinions and photos from real people. Use CarGurus to find the best used car deals.

You can search (filter) all over the USA! The best thing is it tells you if the asking price is good, fair, or bad.

I am currently searching for my wife a vehicle.

True but the market is flooded with good clean used trucks for way more than 10k off sticker. Ill newer buy new again no matter how great of a deal you get your rolling off the lot upside down now a days.

Not sure what area your in but around the Austin area dealers are selling low and offering already included in price a power train warranty on them as long as you own it.

Yes. The asking price of a used vehicle is lower already. I was just saying don't expect $10k off a used truck.

                    You can get close

I don't think this one is 4x4 though. But you can see they will deal.
I'm right there with you though. I like buying used.

If he is going to keep it that long, it is just as cheap(per mile) to buy new.

For example, assuming $5K value of truck with 150k miles:

                        The one listed above.

                        2012 Ford F-150
                        SuperCrew Lariat 4x4 Ecoboost
                        65k miles
                        Sale Price: $27,650.00

                        27650.00 - 5000.00= $22,650
                        22,650/85000= .2665/mile

                        Same truck new 43,000 - 5000.00= 38,000.00
                        38000.00/150000= .2533/mile

I do not have the 6.0, I have a 03 GMC with the 5.3. I get 14-16 depending on what I hauled with that tank. The heaviest thing I pull with it is 4 1800lb round bales at a time.

I know a few people with 6.0s. Without any tuning they get 9-12mpg average.

My 2015 2500 HD 4x4 crew with .410 gears is getting 12.5 hiway and 8.3 loaded. Plenty of power.
